Helsinki-Stockholm-Baltics self-drive itinerary for 10 days:
Day 1. … – HELSINKI (Finland)
Arrival in Helsinki. Private transfer to your hotel in the city centre (25 km), free time, overnight in Helsinki.
Day 2. HELSINKI - STOCKHOLM (Finland – Sweden, by sea)
Spend a whole day in Helsinki: see fish market, the church in rock cave (Temppeliaukio), Senate Square, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, spend some time in the Sibelius Park. And if you are travelling with kids, Helsinki Sea Life could become the milestone of the day in the Finnish capital.
17:00 the ship departs from Helsinki. Dinner and overnight on board
Day 3. STOCKHOLM - TALLINN (Sweden - Estonia, by sea)
Breakfast onboard the ship.
09:30 arrival in Stockholm.
A whole day in Stockholm. Our recommendation is to take a Stockholm Hop-on Hop-off city tour (www.stromma.se) and also pay a visit to a must-see Vasa Museum – the unique wooden ship, which sank in 1628, was salvaged in 1961, carefully conserved and is now the best known exhibit in Stockholm.
17:45 the ship departs from the same terminal where you arrived in the morning. Dinner and overnight on board.
Day 4. TALLINN (Estonia)
Breakfast onboard the ship.
09:30 arrival in Tallinn.
A whole day in Tallinn. Aside to the walk in the Old Town of Tallinn, our recommendations would be visiting Rocca al Mare – Estonian Open-air Museum, Kumu Art Museum, Kadriorg Art Museum and Kadriorg Palace, Museum of Occupations.
And if you are with kids - the Seaplane Harbour Museum in Tallinn is simply the must.
Day 5. TALLINN
You have one more day in Tallinn or surroundings. You can wish to pay a visit to the beautiful National Park of Lahemaa, which lays about 80 km East of Tallinn. Please note that if you will drive to Riga via Tartu, you may want to postpone your visit to Lahemaa Park for that day.
Day 6. TALLINN - RIGA (Estonia - Latvia)
You can choose from the two routes to drive from Tallinn to Riga. If you drive via Tartu, you are more on history route, because Tartu is the university town of Estonia and the main ensemble is open for visits. There is also Gauja Park (near Sigulda) on the way from Tartu, where you could pull over for a nice walk and maybe pay a visit to the History Museum in the Castle of Turaida and also admire the picturesque views of teh park from its tower. The other route to Riga leads via Parnu, the summer capital of Estonia - the main resort of the country.
Overnight in Riga.
Day 7. RIGA - JURMALA - RIGA (Latvia)
The whole day in Riga is sometimes enough to get a bit of everything the only millionaire city of the Baltic Countries can offer. But usually it is not the case, especially if you decide to drive another 20km outside the city and stay for some hours in Jurmala, the buzzy resort of Latvia at the Baltic Sea. Our recommendations in Riga: Museum of Art Nouveau, the Church of St. Peter and its tower, the Cathedral, Museum of Occupations. For families the advice would be to visit Riga Zoo and Livu Aquapark in Jurmala.
Day 8. RIGA - RUNDALE PALACE - VILNIUS (Latvia - Lithuania)
On the way to Lithuania, when you reach Bauska, don’t miss Rundale Palace - the baroque castle by Rastrelli. It is just 12km from the town. This is the most visited palace and museum in Latvia and it is really worth it.
In Pasvalys (about 26 km after you cross Latvian-Lithuanian border on the route A10/E67) – turn to Siauliai. This is a zigzag (plus 100 km to a straight) but you will be impressed by the Hill of Crosses, which is there, just 12 km before Siauliai.
Overnight in Vilnius.
Day 9. VILNIUS - TRAKAI - VILNIUS (Lithuania)
A whole day in Vilnius with its UNESCO listed old town, which is the northernmost baroque pearl in Europe. The city of churches is not a church and you will find more activities here than just praying. Our recommendations: Vilnius University ensemble, Pilies street, The Museum of Victims of Genocide (KGB Museum), The Cathedral, The Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Gate of Dawn. Water park, ice skating rink, Money Museum would be great attractions if you are with kids. And if you want a light stroll alongside the lake bank instead of visiting museums – drive to Trakai (30km), and when you come here, do not forget to taste the kybyn - the pastry of local minority - the Karaims.
If you see there’s still left much unseen, please contact us for assistance and we will prolong your hotel and car reservations.
Day 10. VILNIUS - ...
You are taking-off for home today, just do not forget to drop-off the car at Vilnius airport.
