Itinerary details for a 14-days self-drive tour in the Baltics:

Day 1. … – VILNIUS
Arrival in Vilnius. Pick-up your car, drive to your hotel (7 km), free time, overnight in Vilnius.

Day 2. VILNIUS (Lithuania)
Day for exploring Vilnius.

Day 3. VILNIUS – KERNAVE – VILNIUS (Lithuania)
Drive to the first historic capital of Lithuania, Kernave (40 km), which is now a world famous archeological site protected by UNESCO. The mounds, the beautiful nature seen from the observation platform on the mound. Moreover, the time allows you to stay here for a whole day. The recommendation would be to enjoy nature paths – just follow the signs on the road Kernave – Vilnius. But just before leaving the town, take a glance at the technicalcentre of the local soviet “Kolkhoz” – you should notice the sign on its wall.

Day 4. VILNIUS – TRAKAI – DRUSKININKAI (Lithuania)
Visit to Trakai (27 km), yet another ancient capital of Lithuania. Stroll in the town along the narrow streets with typical buildings, kenesa, the praying house or Caraims, the local ethnic minority, the medieval Trakai Castleamong the lakes. Trakai is within the Trakai National Park of History. Continue to Druskininkai, the South of Lithuania, near the border with Belarus. Druskininkai is the main thermal SPA resort of the country with wide possibilities for walking and cycling as well. The beautiful National Park of Dzukija with nice pine forests and also ethnographic villages Zervynai and Marcinkonys are also worth visiting.

Day 5. DRUSKININKAI – KAUNAS (Lithuania)
Possibility to visit the famous open-air soviet sculpture park-museum Grutas (5 km from Druskininkai). Continue to Kaunas. Suggestion to visit in Kaunas: the biggest in the region ethnographic open-air museum of Lithuanian household traditions in Rumsiskes (20km to Kaunas), the baroque monastery of Pazaislis, 9th Fort, old town, city centre. Overnight in Kaunas.

Day 6. KAUNAS – KLAIPEDA (Lithuania)
Short visit of Kaunas – the old town with the pedestrian Avenue of Freedom. Those interested in the art of the beginning of the 20th, would visit the Art Gallery of M.K. Ciurlionis (the outstanding artist of Lithuania). Departure to Klaip
eda. Take the highway A2 (200 km) or take the national route along the river Nemunas (the so called "Panemune Castle route". Arrival in Klaipe
da, overnight.

Day 7. KLAIPEDA – CURONIAN SPIT – KLAIPEDA
Take a ferry to the Curonian Spit and drive to Nida (55 km), visit Juodkrante en-route (Mount of Witches). The Curonian spit is a 98 km long and ~1.5 km wide sand-dune spit, separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. 51 km of the spit belongs to Lithuania, the rest - to Kaliningrad. The spit is on the World Heritage list of the UNESCO. Return to Klaipeda for overnight.

Day 8. KLAIPEDA – PALANGA – Hill of Crosses – Rundale – RIGA (Lithuania – Latvia)
Drive to Palanga (30 km), enjoy the white sandy beach, stroll in the botanical garden, visit the Amber Museum. Then drive in the direction of Siauliai (120 km), and stop by the world-unique Hill of Crosses (14 km beyond Siauliai). Then proceed to Latvia, Rundale and visit the magnificent local baroque palace, constructed by Rastrelli. Continue to Riga (80 km) for overnight.

Day 9. RIGA
Day for exploring Riga.

Day 10. RIGA – Park Gauja – PARNU – SAAREMAA (Latvia – Estonia)
Departure to the National Park of Gauja (55 km), visit of the park and Turaida Castle (museum of history is similar to Trakai Castle near Vilnius, but the picturesque park view from the tower are worth a stop here). After drive to Estonia. Arrive in hanseatique Parnu (175 km), the main resort town of Estonia. Later continue to Kuressaare, the capital of the isle of Saaremaa (80 km + ferry + 50 km). Arrival and overnight.

Day 11. SAAREMAA (Estonia)
Day for exploring the beautiful islands of Estonia. Overnight in Kuressaare.

Day 12. SAAREMAA – TALLINN (Estonia)
Take the direction of Tallinn (170 km).

Day 13. TALLINN
Day for exploring Tallinn: the lower and the upper parts of the old town, the open-air ethnographical museum of Rocca al Mare, visit to Kadriorg park, Pirita (the ancient Convent of St Bridget – Pirita Klooster).

Day 14. TALLINN – Park Lahemaa – TALLINN (Estonia)
Visit to the National Park of Lahemaa (80 km from Tallinn). Return and overnight in Tallinn.

Day 15. TALLINN – …
Free time, departure to the airport, drop-off the car.

The cars are all new (up to 3 years old) and rented from our trusted and contracted rent-a-car companies. As always at the time of confirmation rental cars are beeing confirmed with category/class and not with a certain make. Rent-a-car company is obliged to upgrade to a higher car category if the booked one is not available at the time of delivery to the customer. Driver must be at least 21 years of age and must hold a valid driver's licence with at least 2 years of experience. Collission and Theft Insurances are included with excess amount of 435 Eur.
