Kaunas Travel Guide
One can often hear local people referring to Kaunas as a temporary capital of Lithuania. Where does this title come from? During the inter war period due to a difficult situation in Vilnius, Kaunas was declared to be the capital of Lithuania and was the leading center of Lithuanian economic, academic and cultural life.
Nowadays Kaunas is the second largest city of Lithuania. It is located at the confluence of the two largest Lithuanian rivers- Nemunas and Neris, which, together with the parks and green areas allows for romantic and charming promenades. In the Old town one can still feel the spirit of previous ages and enjoy the gothic, renaissance or baroque style architecture. At the same time everyone can benefit from vivacious cultural life or dive into the pulsing nightlife of the city.
